For Sale: Escort GTI Turbo (Warm-Up Thread)

Recommended Posts

As some of you may know, or may have seen, my Escort GTI Turbo.. It's the car featured on my Zetec Turbo DIY Guide (http://turbo.me.uk). The car was also in a special Performance Ford feature done in April, due out in the Sept/October issue of the magazine, so watch this space!

Anyway, i'm planning to emigrate to Canada, so i'm selling all my cars. This thread is for the Escort, but I also have a Focus ST and a Sapphire Cosworth to get rid of too! Let me know if either of those may be of interest..

So.. the Escort..

The car produced 220bhp @ 1 bar as a proof of concept. The car is currently set at 0.8 bar boost peak which is a genuine 200bhp. The turbo is much more efficient at this boost level and it's generally nicer to drive.. you can however turn it back up (i've set the boost cut at 1.2 bar), but personally I wouldn't.. This package is pretty much on the edge at 220bhp, so 0.8 bar is 'safer'..

I've put a price on each category of what it cost me, in parts alone, i'll leave labour out..

Here is a dyno print out (from Torque Development, hub dyno, much more accurate than a rolling road!)..

THESE FIGURES ARE AT THE WHEELS @ 1 BAR BOOST

Out of interest, a Focus ST struggled to gain a single car length from the Escort from 60-120mph! The GTI was also timed with a 6.3 second 0-60 by Performance Ford.

So as you can see above.. so far, as far as I can work out, the car has set me back about £8000.. it feels light to me as theres probably a bunch of things along the way i've forgotten about, but you can see that good money has been spent on the car.. money that you won't have to spend if you buy it! 8)

I have done less than 1000 miles on the car since I did the conversion above! That's right. It's hardly been used. The tyres are still mint. I built it just to prove a point really and now you can own it for yourself.

The only negative points about the car are that the air con needs re-gassing (about 30-40 quid?) and a slight dent on the offside rear quarter, just infront of the rear light cluster - i've been told this will come out easily. The bodywork is generally in good condition, a few light scratches here and there, but everything is straight! It even has a brand new genuine Ford front and rear bumper put on like 100 miles ago which I forgot to mention above!

So what am I looking for...

Right now i'm looking for offers. Don't offer me a grand, or even two. If you're seriously interested in the car, then PM me your offer and we'll talk. The car is located in Essex. No part ex's as i'm emigrating!

Please only reply to this thread if it's a direct question about the car or spec and only if you are interested in buying it!..

Thanks for your time..

what does the engine look like? just out of interest

Fairly standard under the bonnet as the purpose was to turbocharge a GTI 'as if Ford had done it'.. so it's all very OEM!

Oh, I forgot it's got a e-tech strut brace.. The cam cover was bead blasted then painted with crinkle-finish black paint.. looks nice!

I'll try and get a decent under bonnet pic tonight..

Well imagine a standard GTI engine bay.. then clean it up a little, add a black cam cover and add a few extra pipes here and there, and you'll be pretty much there 8)

Nothing polished in sight.. i'll get a photo tonight!

Just wondering mate where did you get those plates made up?

Looking for a good place to make some nice new plates like that but aint having much luck finding something i like...

Was it an internet based company?

I did them myself on a friends equipment.. They just use modified laser printers these days.. very cheap, good profit margins!!
