Flip key Mod

DRAVEN

Recommended Posts

This is a simple mod I have done due to the fact I have a bad habit of sitting on my keys and bending them

This mod can be used for any ford that has the glass transponder, but you can get a ID4C carbon chip to fit the flip key from the US which is used on ford and Toyota.

Tools you will need:

• Flat blade screwdriver

• Dremel or soldering Iron

• Strong glue maybe

• Small nail

• Small Hammer

I got my flip key and blank blade off eBay:

Blade:

Flip Key:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...%3D1&_rdc=1

Ok to start you need to separate the fob, starting by inserting the screwdriver in to the hole that’s in the recess for the flip key

See pic below, once you put the screwdriver into the hole twist it and the key fob should separate.

Next you have to take the fob and the key section apart that is do by putting the screwdriver in to the key recess on both half’s of the casing

Make sure to be careful when taking apart the flip part as the spring and button have a habit of popping out, once this is done your ready for the next step.

Now you need to take your dremel/soldering iron and remove all the plastic in the section in the pic below it needs to be as flat as possible as this will hold your transponder

It should look like this when reassembled:

Once the above is done you now have to cut the fob to fit half the transponder, remove the chipboard if you have one, then cut the fob in the same fashion as the pic below..

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a53/DRAVEN2005/FlipKeyMod/DSC00365.jpg

You Now need to do the same with the other side...

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a53/DRAVEN2005/FlipKeyMod/DSC00367.jpg

Once that is done you should have it looking like this...

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a53/DRAVEN2005/FlipKeyMod/DSC00373.jpg

Next step is to see how it fits, put the chipboard back in the fob close the casing up and push the transponder in to the hole you made

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a53/DRAVEN2005/FlipKeyMod/DSC00383.jpg

Make sure it’s a nice fit not to tight cause you could break the chip and not too loose as for the chip to slide about.

Next you have to swap the blades over that’s done by getting a small nail that just fits in the hole that holds the pin holding the key blade in

Tap that out and the old blade just pulls out, you then push the new blade in and tap the pin back in.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a53/DRAVEN2005/FlipKeyMod/DSC00369.jpg

Now you have to put the key blade section back together put the spring into the button and twist till it stops... Put the button back into the blade section

Both the blade section and button has 3 notches line these up, then u have to put the other end of the spring in to the plastic casing there’s also a notch cut out for the spring, put it in the notch and turn the key anti-clockwise once.. press it down and put the other side of the casing back on..

Put both sections of the flip key fob back together and then you have to file the key recess abit till your key closes and opens easily...

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a53/DRAVEN2005/FlipKeyMod/DSC00372.jpg

Now hold the key blade as if you where putting the key it to a lock hold the blade tight and turn if the blade casing opens then you need to add some glue to it to hole it closed..

This guide is done by me DRAVEN.. and can be used on other sites as long as credit is give to me..

yer yer rub it in...

I guess if you could wire a mk3 mondeo centrallocking unit in to a escort then the fobs would work..

I doubt you'll be doing that mate, its a GEM unit which controls nearly everything in the car.

I've got 2 of them flip keys lol,

just never botherd to get them changed over, good mod mate comon on fiesta and focus fourms, i used a jag key on my fiesta mk6

Loads of people on mondeo forums use jag keys, but its a ford not a jag so i used a ford flip key lol :P

I have the jag key but its now be downgraded to my spare as i'm in a ford mood at the moment!

Isnt that just for the facelift mondeo with multiplex wireing?
